In November 2010, the Wellsboro Municipal Authority’s slow sand filtration drinking water plant began experiencing high turbidity and algae events due to elevated levels in their reservoir. This caused an emergency boil water notice for residents and businesses, and they needed a fast solution to restore high-quality drinking water.
After the successful completion of a pilot test, Aria FAST mobile water treatment system from Aria Filtra® was selected and installed to solve this challenge. The system's robust hollow-fiber membrane filtration modules provided high-quality water, allowing them to meet the DEP drinking water requirements and bring the municipality into compliance, despite high turbidity events. As an additional safety measurement, an alarm management system was incorporated into the control system to automatically call specified contacts in the event of a critical alarm.
In addition to becoming compliant and providing high-quality water, the authority was able to reduce the cleaning frequency of their conventional technology, significantly decreasing maintenance costs. The Aria FAST solution minimizes capital expenditures and allows for possible future changes to the source water.
